MIRACLE OF PRAYER
Australia Rejects Homosexual ‘Marriage’
On 7 September 2013 an historic election loss took place in Australia which many believe is an answer to prayer. The ruling Australian Labor Party, led by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, lost to the Coalition, led by Tony Abbot, with Labor receiving its lowest primary vote since 1903.
Dr. David Phillips, National President of FamilyVoice Australia, said, “One of the reasons for such a clear defeat was Labor’s change of mind and support for ‘same-sex marriage’.” Kevin Rudd, a professing Christian and once staunch defender of traditional marriage, unexpectedly reversed his position on 21 May. Then, in another surprising twist, Mr Rudd re-took leadership of the country on 26 June. He then promised, just 27 days before the election, to legislate for homosexual ‘marriage’ within one hundred days of being re-elected, even though a similar bill had been soundly defeated 98-42 in November 2012.
Pastor Matt Prater, Chairman of the Australian National Day of Prayer and Fasting team said, “On national television on 2 September, I asked Kevin Rudd about his sudden change to support homosexual marriage. Mr. Rudd tried to dismiss the words of Jesus which I used from Matthew 19:5 that support the marriage of a man and a woman. The YouTube clip of the 4-min incident went viral. Following this I was asked to do many media interviews in which I could explain the Biblical view of marriage.”
Also on the 2 September, Kevin Rudd addressed about 35,000 Christians gathered in 350 churches across Australia as part of an Australian Christian Lobby webcast. Referring to his changed views on ‘some issues’, he politely appealed for understanding. An article in a national newspaper later described this as a ‘Judas Kiss’ that could cost him because of his public humiliation of Pastor Prater two hours later. On the other hand, Tony Abbott, also a professing Christian restated during the webcast, “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman.”
David Rowsome, one of the organizers of the Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call said, “Kevin Rudd’s real thinking was exposed to voting Christians on 2 September. I believe God has been answering the prayers of many around the world who have been burdened to pray for our country leading up to the election which was held on the same day that Pope Francis asked the world to pray and fast for Syria.
The Australian Prayer Network prayer point for 2 September, compiled months earlier, was to ‘pray for policies that protect and strengthen the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman’. Amazingly, the global Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call devotion for that same day, also compiled earlier, asked us to ‘pray against the ‘culture of death’ that seeks to re-define marriage and remove the life potential that comes from the union of a man and a woman in marriage’.”
God heard our prayers and there was a change of government. A miracle of prayer had occurred! A victory has been won, but the battle is far from over. We need your continuing prayers.”
