Devotional for Day 32 – 6 Sept 2013
(Name withheld due to security reasons) Team Expansion, Asia
Intention: We know that He hears us.
Scripture: And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him (1 John 5:14-15 ESV).
A Chinese hymn says, “Softly, softly listening. He is softly, softly listening. My Shepherd knows my voice.”
Our Shepherd is bending down to his lamb; our Dad leaning in to hear his child’s requests. He focuses his attention on us. No static obscures our voice. We don’t need to shout. As we ask according to His will, our Heavenly Father hears us.
The hymn continues, “Softly, softly, listen. I will softly, softly listen. I turn my ear to hear my Lord’s voice.”
We quietly tune our hearts into the whispers of Scripture that the Spirit breathes. This allows us to move into the place of praying ‘according to his will’. We can pray confidently using God’s own words, raising the souls of those he has laid on our hearts—though we may never have seen their faces—to the throne.
“He is the Great Shepherd, the Lord of Life. My whole life I will follow my Lord’s voice.”
The hymn rises to this triumphant conclusion.
The One we petition is no tin pot ruler, no wizard of tricks, but the Author of Life in whom all things hold together. We can fully rely on his ability, confident that ‘we have the requests we have asked of him’. We have been given a blank cheque on an unlimited account. One billion souls are not beyond his power to save, nor corrupt national systems beyond his power to change. Ask big. He hears. He answers.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Great Shepherd of the sheep, we thank you for hearing us. Please guide us now to pray according to your will. Please bring in the sheep still outside your fold. Jesus gave his life for them, that they may also follow your voice. You are well able to do this. We praise you for hearing and answering these prayers, which we bring in the name of Jesus. Amen.
[Blogger’s Comment: Praise God for the encouragement to us today through this devotion. Yes, God hears and answers our prayers so let’s listen to what is on his heart for his world. People gathering together, whether in one physical location or across the internet, for the purpose of praying, fasting and repenting IS POWERFUL!
Today I want to alert you to a call that has gone out from the Vatican by Pope Francis “for each and every religious person, and those against war, to join him together in prayer, in a spirit of penitence, to ask from God this great gift [of peace] for the beloved Syrian nation and for all the situations of conflict and violence in the world.” This World Day of Prayer and Penance is marked for tomorrow 7 September especially between the hours of 7-12 pm when Pope Francis will lead a prayer vigil in St Peter’s Square. You can read more details here.
There are about 1.2 billion Catholics in the world today and 1 billion people of other Christian denominations (over half a billion of whom are Evangelicals). That is a POWERFUL PRAYER FORCE! Pope Francis has appealed also to non-Christians who welcome peace, to join him. It is in desperate times that people are known to resort to prayer. So potentially that is a POWERFUL cry from people’s hearts.
Could this be part of his answer to our cry over the past 31 days? Today CBN.com Day 30’s prayer point in their 40 days of prayer reads “TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION”. Pray for the salvation of at least 1 billion souls! GOD TV launched 12 hours ago theircampaign that goes for one week and focuses on praying that our loved ones might know him. A multiplication of prayer to God across the world!
The 7 September is a very important occasion here ‘Down-under’ in Australia also. It is the day of our federal election. The original intention back in May was that these 40 days of prayer and fasting would end on our election day, then the 14 September. So much has been happened politically in a few months including a change in Prime Minister and hence the election day. There has been a change too in the Christian Prime Minister’s view on same-sex ‘marriage’ from firmly against it to supporting a re-definition of marriage to include homosexual unions. If you would like to stand with us in our battle for righteousness in our nation, thisgives some details to help you pray. God listens to our prayers and answers according to his will.
May His Kingdom come, His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen. MR]
