Devotional for Day 20 – 25 August 2013
Intention: Prayers can’t be answered unless they are prayed.
Scripture: So he said to his disciples, “The harvest is large, but there are few workers to gather it in. Pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out workers to gather in his harvest (Matthew 9:37-38 GNT).
Reflection: I found this old poem in my files, and it is so true:
“A life without a purpose is barren indeed
THERE CAN’T BE A HARVEST UNLESS YOU PLANT SEEDS
There can’t be attainment unless there’s a goal
And man’s but a robot unless there’s a soul
If we send no ships out, no ships will come in
and unless there’s a contest, nobody can win
For games can’t be won unless they are played
AND PRAYERS CAN’T BE ANSWERED UNLESS THEY ARE PRAYED.”
Billy Graham once said, “To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees”. And Max Lucado writes, “God’s power is unleashed when God’s people pray.” Can I urge you then to pray to the Lord of the harvest for a billion people to find Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour? For when we pray we CAN EXPECT GOD TO ANSWER OUR PRAYERS. We can be sure that he wants to answer our prayers but we need to pray!
Prayer: Lord of the Harvest, please forgive us of our prayerlessness. I pray that you will raise up a prayer army throughout the nations of the world. Call many more people into this army so we will see a great harvest of souls throughout the nations of the earth.
MAY YOUR KINGDOM COME AND YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.
In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
[Blogger’s Comment: There is so much teaching on prayer and resources for praying available today but are we actually praying more? Annie, a prayer warrior in her 70s, reminds us today that we must actually pray! And the one specific prayer request Jesus did give us was to pray to God that he would send out more workers for the great harvest to be brought in. Let’s begin praying that everyday.
It has been a privilege to moderate the 52 comments posted to these blogs and our webpages. Here are 3 from yesterday.
1. From a friend in the USA on Day 11 Devotional.
In America there will be a National Day of Prayer and Repentance on Sept 11th, 2013. Read about the The Joseph Plan http://dayofprayerandrepentance.com/and join in. Overcome All With a Faith That Endures!
My reply: Americans Christians, we will be standing with you on that day. We have mentioned this special day in the Devotions for Day 37 of our Prayer Guide. May God stir the hearts of all Americans to pray and repent on this day.
2. From Warwick Marsh on Day 19 Devotional.
Dave Butts the man who wrote the devotional for day 19 of the Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call is a man of prayer and a man of God. Dave Butts is Chairman of Americas National Prayer Committee.
On one of the first international telephone conferences we had to organise this prayer call on the 1st of June 2013, Dave shared from his heart about the need for repentance and prayer in the body of Christ and I began to weep (Dave Butts is the first voice you hear if you follow the link).
We as believers all need to enter the sabbath rest of God as Dave says in this devotional. Praying and fasting is one of the practical ways to do this as we acknowledge before God that our problems are too big for us. We need you God to overtake our humanity and give us what we don’t even know how to ask for.
So Father in Jesus Name pour out your Spirit on the earth in the midst of our rebellion and send revival and transformation to our nations in Jesus Name. Start your work in me. Amen
3. From Colleen Martin on Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call page
August 6 was also the beginning of Rosh Chodesh and the New Moon. Moses ascends Mt. Sinai for the second time, and 40 days of repentance begin. Until Moses descends to give over the second set of tablets to the nation of Israel, on the 40th day, on Yom Kippur. A better time could not have been picked for the faithful of the Living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, of the Messiah Yeshua, the true High Priest and King, to cry out to the Lord our God. May the Father bless all of you, Amen.
Continue in prayer using the 4 prayer points as the Lord leads you.
- Pray for a worldwide outpouring of the Holy Spirit for revival and transformation of the nations of the world.
- Pray for a billion people to find Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
- Pray for an end to abortion and for God to turn back the tide of death and immorality that is sweeping the nations of the world.
- Pray for a multiplication of prayer, praise and worship to God across the world as never before, to bring great glory to God.
